A CHRISTMAS FAIR & NATIVITY EXHIBITION: by ASCAT Churches at the Sayers Common Church and Church hall at 10.30am on Saturday 3 December. Pop up café, cakes, preserves, gifts, bric a brac, and an exhibition of Christmas nativity sets. Raising funds for the churches in Albourne, Sayers Common and Twineham. CHRISTMAS BAZAAR: The Guides, Brownies and Rainbows invite one and all on Saturday 3 December to the Guide HQ, off Trinity Road car park from 10am to 12 noon. All are having stalls to tempt you with goodies. Also a raffle, cakes, tea, coffee and mince pies. Father Christmas has promised to visit. They are also holding a Reindeer Run at 11am to 11.30 in the garden in aid of Chestnut Tree House Hospice.

ST LAWRENCE SCHOOL: is also holding a Christmas Bazaar on Saturday 3 December from 12noon to 3pm, at the school with plenty of stalls and seasonal fare.

PYECOMBE CHURCH: has a Christmas Fayre as well on Saturday at the Village Centre from 1.45pm to 3.45pm. Stalls, grand raffle, bric a brac and refreshments.

SANTA’S FUN SUNDAY: in Hurst and absolutely not to be missed, takes place on 4 December in a pedestrian only High Street between 1pm and 6pm. Traders and residents host a family event in the run up to Christmas for shopping and festive fun. To name but a few go and enjoy meeting Elsa from Frozen, show your talent with the open mic on the Green, enjoy a hog roast, hot dogs or mulled wine, try your luck with the raffle and soft toy tombola, visit Father Christmas in the Grotto, be covered in seasonal Christmas card snow and look at the various stalls setting out their tempting wares and goodies. Gill Blackburn, chair of the Traders welcomes all offers of help, for stewards, first aiders, bakers for the charity cake stall, or from any other volunteers. Also those wanting to have their own street stall should contact her on 07748 630316 or pop in and see her at Ashley & Thomas. All proceeds on the day will go to Cancervive.

CAFE CHURCH: at Hurstpierpoint Methodist Church, Cuckfield Road on Sunday 4 December from 10.30 am to 11.30 am. Come and enjoy Coffee and Croissants followed by lively worship with modern songs and a Bible message relevant for today. Suitable for all ages.

G&T@3: A traditional half-hour service at Hurstpierpoint Methodist Church also on Sunday 4 December from 3.00 pm to 3.30 pm, tea provided after the service with time to chat.

HURSTPIERPOINT AFTERNOON CLUB: has its Christmas party on Tuesday 6 December at the Village Hall 2.15pm. All are welcome, including Father Christmas to help get into the festive mood, with music and singing from the children from St Lawrence.

WOLSTONBURY WI: has a Christmas entertainment on Wednesday 7 December with Nick and Simon Hancock at 2.15pm at the Village Centre.

LATE NIGHT SHOPPING IN HURST: In a change from the usual one night only now a daytime event, our shops will be still be open until 8pm, but on Thursdays 8, 15, and 22 December. A handy way to get your present shopping done, popping to the High Street after work, with free parking and no fighting your way through the crowds. There is a wide range of gift ideas available from jewellery, clothes, delicious food, wines and spirits, vintage and modern gifts to treats for your dog, even vouchers for beauty treatments welcomed for post Christmas enjoyment, Thursday 15 December is the special night because shops will be handing those purchasing their gifts, a glass of free Prosecco.

HURST VILLAGE CINEMA: shows Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller, Strangers on a Train on Friday 9 December. Tickets from Mishon Mackay or the website.

BOTHY SINGERS: have a Christmas Concert on Saturday 10 December at the Players Theatre. This all female vocal group based in the village will be performing a variety of songs. Doors open at 7pm tickets from Heather Hush on 01273 831023 or [email protected].

CHRISTMAS UNWRAPPED on Saturday 10 December from 3pm to 5pm at the Methodist Church, a craft afternoon for children followed by an ad hoc nativity. Children to come dressed in character. Places limited so prebooking essential. Contact Margaret Taylor on 01273 832286 or e-mail [email protected]

HURSTPIERPOINT SINGERS: present their Christmas Spectacular on Sunday 11 December at 2.30pm in the Village Centre. This concert has their usual mix of seasonal music and readings, but also lots of audience participation, including their now famous “12 Days of Christmas”. Tickets are £8 to include a glass of wine or soft drink and a mince pie. Available from Janton News, Hassocks Hardware or at the door. Accompanied children under 12 are free.

STARTING SCHOOL IN 2017?: A last reminder that if you have not already applied, that before you get taken up with Christmas you should put in an application online, to avoid being caught out by the deadline, 15 January. West Sussex no longer sends out letters to individual parents, but all the info needed is online on their website www.westsussex.gov.uk/admissions.
