‘I put my life in his hands’ - Tribute to Haywards Heath base jumper

Daniel Campbell met Gareth Jones, who died in Australia last week after falling from a cliff, at Cambridge, where Gareth studied mechanical engineering.

“He could pretty much fix anything,” Daniel said.

Gareth was a keen base jumper, having jumped 500 times in Australia, Europe and Asia, and a skydiving enthusiast.

Daniel continued: “My standout memory would have to be the first time we jumped together.

“I put my life in his hands and he allowed me an insight into his crazy world.”

Gareth grew up with his parents in Haywards Heath before moving to Australia.

His former housemate described him as an ‘explosive character’ with ‘so much energy and appetite for life’.

Daniel added: “What an awesome kind of guy!”

Gareth died after climbing a fence and walking to the edge of a cliff, police confirmed, and it is believed the fall was an accident.
