CHURCH NEWS: The special service for Remembrance Sunday will begin at the later time of 10.30 am, to make it possible to observe the 2 Minutes’ Silence at 11 am “at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, we will remember them.” The service will be led by Rev David Page. At the conclusion of the service, the congregation will walk across to the Memorial Hall for a short Blessing, after which coffee and biscuits will be served. During the coming week there are lots of anniversaries : on Monday it is Prince Charles’ birthday, born in 1948; on Wednesday we remember Margaret, Queen of Scotland 1093; on Thursday Hugh, Bishop of Lincoln 1200; on Friday Elizabeth of Hungary 1231 and Hilda, Abbess of Whitby 680. All a long time ago, but nevertheless their names are known.

ANTIQUE HOROLOGICAL SOCIETY: The what?! Well, they are interested in old clocks. They got very excited about the clock in Icklesham Church when they visited last Friday. The clock is described as a Turret Clock and ours is one of the best examples they have seen. At this time, Mark Taylor winds it every week.

WEATHER: No more sitting outside for coffee. It has all changed dramatically all of a sudden. There are still some leaves left on the trees, but not many and most of the glorious colours have faded. Probably a lot of people are having to clear leaves from their paths and lawns. Good compost material though.

HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY: Many thanks to everyone for their support throughout the year, either by helping to get ready for the shows or by donating prizes for the tombola or raffles. All help is much appreciated. The dates for next year’s shows are as follows: Spring Show - Saturday 1st. April; Summer Show - Saturday 5th August; Autumn Show - Saturday 30th September. The Society looks forward to seeing you next year and new members are very welcome. Schedules will be ready in the New Year. Thanks to Ann Osborne for this.

CRAFT FAIR: The November Craft Fair will be held on Saturday 19th November in the Memorial Hall form 10am until 2.30 pm. Shop local for Christmas. There will be at least two new stalls this month, lots of great ideas for all the family and all locally made. Why not call in for tea or coffee which will be on sale along with a selection of home made cakes? A donation from the sale of refreshments will be given to the Friends of Rye Memorial Hospital. There is plenty of free parking, so see you there.

QUEEN’S HEAD: The live music this week will be played from 4 - 6 pm by John Crampton, giving us Footstompin’ Blues. There will be a Quiz in aid of Macmillan on Wednesday 16th from 8.30 pm.

SCHOOL NEWS: Term 2 has begun, with a long haul to Christmas. School assemblies have been focussing on Kindness. The Triple P Parenting Programme is now up and running. All the sessions are listed in the Newsletter, with the next theme as Dealing with Disobedience. The Business Ambassadors, Siena, Joel and Billy visited Lloyds Bank and Santander in Hastings before meeting with all the ambassadors at Sussex Coast College. They were excellent representatives for the school. The Year 5 Sports leaders attended their Sports Crew training at St. Leonards Academy this week. There were training exercises and group activities, after which they were awarded their Sports Crew T shirts which they now wear on duty in the playground. Well done everybody. There will be a meeting of PTFA at 2 pm in school today - Friday 11th. The awards this week are as follows : Head Teacher Awards ; Hope Faith and Love. Starfish class, Summer for being a super kind talk partner; Stingray class, Rosie who is always positive and helpful; Dolphin class, Jolie for a great attitude to learning; Octopus class, Jake for a great attitude towards reading. The Class awards are :Starfish class, Lorien and Johnie; Stingray class, Cody and Pearl; Dolphin class, Amaro and Taylor and Octopus class Amelie T. and Lily T. Good work everyone.

AND FINALLY: On Friday 11th November at 11 am there will be a 2 minutes’ silence at the war memorial in the churchyard at Winchelsea where a maroon will mark the times and wreaths will be laid. I can remember a time when all traffic stopped for the 2 minutes, but not these days, sadly.. Have a good week.
