CHURCH SERVICE: The 10.30am service this Sunday, 17th May will be Morning Prayer for the 7th Sunday of Easter.

CHRISTIAN AID: During this week which is nearly over, house to house collections have been taking place for some help for the poorest people in the world, concentrating this year on Ethiopia. If no-one has called on you, and you would like to donate, please contact Frances Read.

CHURCH MARKET: The next market will be held in church on Saturday 16th May -- tomorrow, from 11 am until 2 pm. There will be the usual light lunches, coffee, cakes and lots of plants for this busy growing season. There will also be friends there, and therefore a good time to have a chat.

WEATHER: After a big blow last week, the weather seems to have settled down a bit, and is showing signs of warming up again. The rather belated April Showers have been very welcome in the garden. My runner beans have remembered that they are supposed to climb up the canes and look pretty healthy now.

QUEEN’S HEAD: The live music this Sunday, from 4 - 6 pm will be played by Loz Netto, who is the Guitar man. On Wednesday 20th May at 8.30 pm, there will be a Quiz in aid of St. Michael’s Hospice.

ANNUAL FUND RAISING: I have heard from Kate Mylrea about the events planned for this year’s Fund raising. She writes, “It’s that time of year again when I look to you and your generosity in supporting our Charity effort. Again we shall be raising funds for BREAST CANCER CARE. As you know, this charity is very close to me. This year we thought we would try a different function and of course, the ‘old faithful.’ On SUNDAY 21st JUNE 3 - 5 PM. there will be a traditional strawberry tea with sandwiches, scones, jam and cream, little cakes and strawberries and as much tea/coffee as you can drink. £8 pp. Hopefully this will be served in the garden but if the weather is inclement, plan B will be in the house. Please book early to get a table. The second event is on 28th June, but more details nearer the time. For now, book the date in your diaries. As you know I always have to have a challenge !! And this year is no different. I have already completed a Firewalk, that’s right, 20 feet of blazing coals in my bare feet (!?)and will also be taking part in the Race For Life again.” For booking, the phone number is 01424 813 787.

ROTARY WALK: The 17th Annual Walk and Treasure Hunt takes place this year on Sunday 24th May. It starts from Phillips and Stubbs office in Rye form 9 - 10 am.The nominated charities this year are Rye Hospital and St. Michael’s Hospice, with 50% retained for the charity or good cause of your own choice. You can register at [email protected] or on the day. The walk will take you along the banks of the River Brede towards Camber castle and to Castle water with its wonderful bird life. From there you can return by a circular route back to Rye, or, for the more energetic, continue through the Nature Reserve before returning. The walk is not a race - you can go at your own pace with a choice of three distances from 4 miles to 10 miles. You can stop off for drinks (and toilets!) adjacent to the castle. All walkers receive a Completion Certificate . Trophies will be awards to the TEAM with the most sponsorship - the Charity Shield - and to individual walkers with the most sponsorship ( up to age 12, 13 to 17 years and over 18s.

SCHOOL NEWS: Plans are warming up for the Friends Summer Fayre to be held on Saturday 27th June at 2. 30 pm. if you are able to help please contact [email protected] to let Jane Gillard, Chair of Friends committee know. Is everyone having a go at designing a Logo? details are being sent out. The special Head Teacher Award this week goes to Finlay for putting other people first by suggesting a Mufti Day for Nepal. £120.55 was raised. The other awards went to Liam, Lola, Alisha, Inigo, Lily T, Amelie, William and Ella. Well done everybody. By today the Year 6 children will be really pleased, having completed their SATs tests.
