GREETINGS: What a pleasure it was to have some real good news - a new baby - to distract us from the endless election discussions. By the time you read this, we shall know who will be governing us for the next five years. I don’t know about you, but it does seem to me that there is not much to choose between the two main parties.

CHURCH SERVICES: The service on Sunday 10th May will be Parish Eucharist and a Procession for Rogation Sunday. This begins at 10.30 am. Traditionally, Rogationtide involves the Blessing of the Crops which are growing in our fields. It used to be a litany of the Saints chanted for three days - Rogation Days - before Ascension Day. Ascension Day is on 14th May, and there will be a service of Holy Communion at 11 am in church.

WEATHER: It was a nice drop of rain that we had. Not enough really, the gardens and fields are very dry. We didn’t actually get our April Showers, did we? I’m a great one for sitting in the sun, but I also keep an eye on what needs watering.

FLOWER CLUB: There will be a Flower Club meeting and display on Tuesday 12th May at 2.15 pm in the Memorial Hall. The theme this time is a Book Title. That is really wide open, so have a go and create something interesting and beautiful. As far as I know, there are no particular restrictions. But to verify this, give Christine a ring on 01424 814 927.

QUEEN’S HEAD: The live music on Sunday 10th May will be played by the Shauna Parker Band, playing from 4 - 6 pm. Their style is described as Country Swing.

ROBIN HOOD INN: I told you last week about the High Summer Vintage Garden Afternoon Tea Party at the Robin Hood on Sunday 26th July from 5.30 pm until late. Music will be by Ricochet and Mr. Steve Sinatra. Booking only, the pub will be closed. More immediately, there will be Rother Triumph Owners British Bike Night, starting at 7 pm on Wednesday 13th May. There will be motorbikes from classic to modern, Triumph, BSA and Norton bikes. There are no trophies, no entry fee, and no fuss. Just an old fashioned meet-up of British and Classic bikes. There will be a BBQ, tea and coffee, real ale, a pub garden and ample parking. Funds are being raised for Help for Heroes. All are very welcome.

SCHOOL NEWS: Unfortunately I have no news this week.
