Icklesham

GREETINGS: March brings breezes loud and shrill, stirs the dancing daffodil. There are certainly plenty of daffodils to enjoy as you walk around the village. And the ‘breezes’ were loud and shrill enough for anyone last week!

CHURCH SERVICE: The 10.30 am service next Sunday will be Parish Eucharist for the 2nd Sunday of Lent. The service will be led by Rev. Canon Robin Whitehead. Fr. Hugh will be preaching at Winchelsea. The Lent Lunch today, Friday 27th, will take place in the Memorial Hall from 12.30 to 2 pm. The meal consists of lovely home made soup, bread and a variety of cheeses. The charity being supported this week is the Royal British Legion. Next week it will be Family Support Work. The lunch is open to everyone, so do come along and have a pleasant social time meeting friends and neighbours. It is a good time to chat !

WEATHER: Mixed is the only possible way to describe it. A gleam of sunshine is often quite rapidly followed by dark clouds and rain, often accompanied by gales.

FLOWERS: In one of the sunny episodes last week, I spotted a whole bank of tiny, shiny celandines smiling in the sunshine.

PANTOMIME: You might be able to get a ticket for The Sleeping Beauty of Icklesham being performed in the Memorial Hall tonight and tomorrow at 7. 30 pm, and again on Saturday afternoon at 2.30 pm. Pop into the Icklesham Stores or phone 01424 812 996.

QUEEN’S HEAD: The live music this Sunday will be played by Loose Change, their music is described as country rock. Ian is in training for his marathon, and the collecting box is out, you know.

ROAD CLOSURE: If you managed to get to the information meeting last Monday, you will know all about it. I have spoken to people at Balfour Beaty and it does seem very important to keep the letter about it which came to all residents, available in your car if you are going to be out after 8 pm. This will sort of prove that you need to get home, so that you can be escorted. It is all good fun as we are having the gas main replaced in our road right now. Mud, mud, glorious mud.!
