CHURCH SERVICE: The 10.30 am service on Sunday 18th January will be Parish Eucharist for the second Sunday of Epiphany.

QUEEN’S HEAD: Live music 4 - 6 on Sunday 18th will be performed by Dead Rabbits, the music described as Folk in Blues Country.

QUIZ NIGHT: The next Quiz Night in aid of St. Michael’s Hospice at the Queen’s Head ,and also at the Royal Oak at Pett, will be on Wednesday 21st January at 8.30 pm. Entry is £2 per head, maximum team size is 6. During 2014 the Quiz nights raised over £1,000 for St. Michael’s Hospice.

ROBIN HOOD INN: A Burns Night Supper will take place at 7.30 pm on Friday 23rd January. A fantastic menu is on offer which includes soup, sausages, sorbet,haggis, dessert, coffee and shortbread, and a nip of Whiskey. The Haggis will be addressed by the piper. Scottish wear welcomed. ICKLESHAM STORES: Seville oranges for marmalade are on sale here in Icklesham at a price lower than the greengrocer in Or.

ICKLESHAM PLAYERS: The next production is the pantomime “The Sleeping Beauty of Icklesham” This has been written by our own Nicky Harris and Josie Body. It has a large cast of great characters, Princes and Princesses, Barons and Baronesses, Wicked and White Witches, Sons and Daughters, Servants and Suitors, a Good fairy and, of course, a Dame. With some really good singers and lots of lovely songs that will lift your heart, we are sure that you will enjoy this delightful story and have many good laughs into the bargain. The performances are on Thursday 26th, Friday 27th and Saturday 28th February at 7.30 pm. There will also be a matinee on Saturday at 2.30 pm. Tickets are available from The Village Store, but you can also reserve seats by phoning Nicky on 01424 812 996.

WEATHER: The Jet Stream has apparently swerved far south after it has crossed the Atlantic. It is very ferocious, and is dragging the weather fronts down from the frozen north. Thursday was atrociously wet, Friday VERY windy and Saturday not too much better, Saturday at least not raining, and Sunday began hopefully with some sunshine and a walk on the beach was a pleasure before the sun went in and the wind came back. It was quite amusing to watch a neighbour’s green wheely bin sliding all the way down the road in the wind.! But thank goodness we did not have winds in excess of 100 m.p.h. as they did in Scotland.

MURDER MYSTERY: Phone Stuart Baker on 814 408 to book for the Murder Mystery evening on 24th January. Tickets are £8 to include supper, you bring your own booze. There will be a raffle and a Table Quiz. It is BOOKED UP, but you may be lucky and find a corner to squeeze in. Please could team organisers of Murder Mystery teams let Stuart know if there is any doubt about raising a team as there are 2 groups on a reserve list.

QUIZ REPORT: Stuart baker has sent this report. Thanks again to you all for your support. Another £384 was raised for the New Pavilion. The hosts were Icklesham Horticultural Society, and they did an excellent job organising the raffle, so thanks to all of them. Fifteen teams entered the Quiz: Team Name and Empty Heads set their stall out from the first round and were always in the top 6 throughout the evening. They were closely followed by One Out All Out, Golden Arrows, Stalybridge Celtic, Nobby’s Nuts and All Sorts. As the evening progressed it got even tighter and ended up a tie between Team Name and Empty Heads. A tie-breaker was used and Team Name came out overall winners. This team has supported these evenings for many years and have never come very close to winning. They also completed another first, as on their Joker round they gained maximum points. Thanks to Mags for helping Stuart to set up, everyone who donated raffle prizes and bought raffle tickets, Marc for being chief helper and everybody who helped with the clearing up. The next Quiz is on 7th February.

SCHOOL NEWS: The children have returned looking very smart. All the Bronze Award Achievers will be working towards their silver and gold awards. The children will be bringing home a list of targets. The school was very pleased to welcome Ed Boxall for the launch of the exciting new creative project “Sea Journey.” The children enjoyed story telling and music and each class will have an additional day working with him. He will be in school on Friday 16th for an Arts Day. Flamingos will be holding a Bring and Buy sale to raise money towards their PGL trip in the summer term. Please would you send in any clothes, gifts, toys, games, bric-a-brac etc to Flamingos from the week beginning 26th January. The SALE will be held on 30th January, 3 pm in the classroom. Congratulations to these children who have won awards this week: Toby, Ella, Lily, Sophie T, Kyle, Hannah, Charlotte, Lois and Matilda.
