This is Harvest Festival weekend. Tomorrow, Saturday 29, All Saints will be decorated from 9.30 onwards.Everyone is welcome to come and help decorate or even do an arrangement.

Sunday 11 November is Remembrance Day. If you are a relative of one of the men who lost his life in THE war between 1939 and 1945 I would be grateful if you could get in touch with me.

Sunday 30 4-6 Live Music at the Queen’s Head Emma Harwood Band with Country Rock.

Icklesham Casuals 1st team lost narrowly 3-2 away to a very good Crowborough Athletic III side in their second game of the season in what was an excellent game of football. Phil Badrock opened the scoring for the Casuals with Jon Fitton adding the second goal. Another Phil Badrock strike earned a draw with Sedlescombe Rangers although the opposition missed a late penalty.

The 2nd team suffered a 2-0 defeat to Sedlescombe Rangers II in a close game with that second goal being scored in the last minute. The side then got their season up and running the following week with a very good 4-2 win at Battle Baptists II with goals from Ben Rootes,Paul Daniels, Nick Bellhouse and Dan Russell.

The Veterans continued with their group games in the Hastings F.A. Veterans Cup with a 1-1 draw at Little Common. Martin Tytherleigh scored.They won 3-1 against Ore Athletic to earn a place in the semi-final.Mike Beaumont scored direct from a free kick to give a 1-0 half time lead. After the interval Vernon Deller and Martin Tytherleigh with a penalty scored. Casuals conceded a late penalty which meant finishing runners up in the group on goal difference. They will play away in the semi final at Hollington United Veterans.

On Saturday 10 November No Exit, the local band, will be playing their fabulous mix of popular covers in the Memorial Hall starting at 8pm. Please support the event as all proceeds will go to the Club’s 75th Anniversary charity fund raising. There will be a licensed bar. There is now a sports results and fixtures board at Icklesham stores so you can keep up to date with village teams

The first Quiz Night of the season raised £248 for Church funds. The winning team was Nobby’s Nuts, closely followed by Team Name, Empty Heads, Fab 4, and Flower Power. The next Quiz Night is on Saturday 20 October when The Icklesham Trust will have the proceeds.

Saturday 6 October is the Icklesham Horticultural Society’s Autumn Show which will be held in the School. Entries should be in by 7pm Wednesday 3 October at 22 High Fords.

Thursday 9 October at 6.00 for 6.30pm at the Rye Community Primary School there’s a healthy lifestyle fun taster session presented by Charlotte Stirling-Reed. This is being organised by the Patient Participation Groups of the Ferry Road Health Centre and the Rye Medical Centre.Everybody is welcome and there will be refreshments and a raffle.

On Saturday 22 September the Recreation Ground was bathed in warm sunshine and was full of excitement as 17 children took part in the fun run suggested by Matthew Brand as a tribute to Joan Baker. Joan had inspired and encouraged so many youngsters taking their part in Icklesham Players productions. Five times the children went around the course marked by the cheerful blue balloons of St. Michael’s Hospice. This was Joan’s chosen charity and she would have loved seeing all the youngsters enjoying their own efforts. Two of her grandchildren Ellie and Connie had T- shirts with Joan’s smiling face on. The sponsored event raised a magnificent £1700 for the Hospice.

The run was followed by a Jumble Sale organised by Joan’s family and friends. This raised over £1000 which will be shared between the Hospice and the funding of a proposed memorial for Joan. The Baker family and Matthew Brand’s family are most grateful for all the support given to this very special day.

Edith Craig, the daughter of Ellen Terry,was the theme of ‘’Elie was a Lady’’. Ann Rachlin brought her to life in her illustrated talk in the Rye Arts Festival. The unusual life of this lady of the theatre was explained referring to many of the original sources involved in Ann’s research. The audience was enthralled and wanted to know more. Ann’s book has the resources,fascinating photographs, humour and anecdotes. It even tells of two cats each with four names.
