Icklesham village voice

Tomorrow is the annual Icklesham Fete combined with the Horticultural Society’s Summer Show on the Recreation Ground and in the Memorial Hall.

It opens at 1pm.The popular roving theatre group will be performing ‘’The Last Apothecary’’ at various times and will guarantee to rid this village of all its quirky ailments.The Wealden Brass band is coming. A fun dog show starts at 2pm and there will be classes for any pet to star in. Rosettes and freebies of course are included. Rye Dance will be there. Lots of children’s races and by popular demand there will be ferret racing. Appling bobbing is not as easy as you think. Refreshments, a licensed bar, a BBQ, and the Pett Rescue Boat will be there. The Church has a cake stall and the exhibits in the Flower Show are always enjoyable to see.There is a lucky programme costing £1 and with a £25 prize and a big raffle with 3 big cash prizes of £100, £50 and £25 plus other prizes.

Parking will be in the field behind the Recreation Ground with access via Workhouse Lane.

Our Baby and Toddler Group meet every Wednesday in term time 10.15 - 11.45 in the Memorial Hall.The group meets again in September and is looking forward to seeing parents, babies and toddlers old and new. All are welcome. The cost is £1.50 per family.Tea and coffee is provided but a small piece of fruit for toddlers at snack time is appreciated.

The Group need donations of toys,books, cars ride-ons,bikes,games,pen and paper for ages 0-4 years. If anyone can help please contact Jane Gillard 01424 814378.

Icklesham has a world record (non Olympic). In 2011 over 80000 birds were ringed at The Wetland Trust Ringing Centre at Elms Farm. The biggest number ever by a single recording station in the world.On Sunday 23 September 10.15 - 12.30 as part of the Rye Arts Festival there is a tour and talk led by Ian Hunter of the Wetland Trust. The cost is £10 and tickets are available at the Festival Box Office c/o Phillips & Stubbs, Cinque Ports Street. Rye TN31 7AN. The tour is sponsored by Stephen Rumsey of the Wetland Trust.

St Michael’s Hospice had another open garden in Icklesham last Tuesday at Knockbridge Farm.Open Gardens are well supported and very much enjoyed and draw visitors from a wide area.However many people have complained to me that they didn’t know the events were happening. ‘’You should have put it in’’ I’ve been told. Unfortunately the Hospice did not use local publicity. Icklesham has a Village Voice and a Parish Magazine which could have been used and this would have probably increased the number of Icklesham residents attending and contributing to the fine work of the Hospice.

Jempson’s the superstore in Peasmarsh has asked village voices to mention their revised Shopper Bus service.On Fridays the bus picks up in Icklesham at 9.05am and shoppers arrive at Peasmarsh at 10.05.as after this village it picks up at Guestling, Pett,Fairlight,Pett Level,Winchelsea Beach ,Rye and Playden. The return trip leaves Jempson’s at 11.30. There’s a nominal charge of £1 for the return journey.
