It all depends on the Jet Stream and for the first time the media have been mentioning it - the factor with most influence on our very variable weather.It is a constant wind averaging 250+ mph blowing from west to east at the top of our weather systems that is over 7 miles high. A local comprehensive ran a 2 year GCSE course in Meteorology and the Jet Stream took 2 hours of teaching time to cover, so it is complex. However you can see it sometimes. In a clear blue look for high, white wispy clouds. These are cirrus and if they are in a hooked shape it is the Jet Stream that is blowing the ice particles of the cloud.If you fly across the Atlantic the journey back can be much quicker with a jet stream behind you.

Today is the second day of the Icklesham Village Beer Festival at the Robin Hood.The event is under cover with a giant marquee. There are 60 real ales,cider,wine,soft drinks and hot dogs and burgers available.There is ample on site parking,male,female and disabled toilets.Coaches are running from both Rye and Hastings £4 single £5 return.Tonight and tomorrow is 18+ only.Tickets are £10 in advance and £12 on the gate.

Tonight, entertainment is from 62 Stone, The Luvverleys and 1066 Rockitmen.

Saturday it’s The Flying Teapots and the Bootleg Bee Gees.

Sunday is a family day from 1 till 6pm. Adults are £6 OR £7, Young People 13-18 are £3 or £3.50 and accompanied under 12s are free,There will be a prize for the best dressed pirate under 12, The first 50 under 12s to arrive will receive a free colouring book and they all get a free bag of sweets. plus pony rides, a bouncy castle and entertainment from Titus,The Rahmanis, Tempus Bravura, Sticks and Stones, Christophe Phillips, Rye Dance School and Robbie Williams tribute with Mike Andrew.

Last weekend’s Art Exhibition held jointly by the Icklesham and Three Oaks Art Clubs was well attended and very successful. Nearly 200 pictures were on display as well as prints,cards, bookmarks and key rings. All the work was of a high standard and several paintings were sold, including three to a German tourist. As Icklesham member Gordon Callis has Parkinson’s Disease,it was agreed that 10% of the sales,plus all the proceeds from a very good raffle and refreshments, should be donated to the charity, Parkinson’s UK, who have received the grand total of £500. Thanks to all those who helped and supported the event.

Icklesham Parish Council certainly listened to both the young people and parents who asked for an improvement to the facilities on the Recreation Ground.A half pipe for skate boarding has been hired and put in the bottom right hand corner of the field.The Council hopes it will be popular. If it is it could be permanent but they need to know your views.

Playing football on the Rec is popular but without nets a lot of time in a kick around can be wasted. You can now borrow nets on a sign and return basis from Icklesham Village Store.

It’s for the new office of Commissioner of Police for Sussex, Also you have the right not to have your name on the Edited Register. This register is sold to any person,company or organisation to be used in marketing etc. If you choose to opt out your details are not sold and hopefully you will receive less junk mail..

70% of British road deaths are on rural roads and the government is considering reducing the speed limits to 40mph in lanes and 20mph in built up areas.Ickleshams lanes are narrow with bends and high hedges.Is 40mph still too high? A car at 40mph needs 9 car lengths to break to a halt.Not very reassuring to walkers, cyclists and horse riders who also use the lanes . Many of of this village’s minor roads roads lead to the School and the Five Villages Too many motorists drive at the legal limit of 30mph despite the extra hazard of parked vehicles. Could they halt their vehicle in 75 feet (23 metres)?
