The Horticultural Society’s Spring Show on Easter Saturday filled the Memorial Hall with yellows of the daffodils and assorted colours of the tulips.

Judy Foster won 3 cups, the Janette and John Ireland trophy for most points in narcissi and tulips, the Society’s cup for most points and the cup for most points in the show. Judy won 6 of the narcissi classes, the vase of mixed spring flowers a tulip class and the foliage pot plant class, Stuart Baker won 2 narcissi classes and Pete Stunt won one.

John Dunk had the certificate for best in the flower section with wins for his tulips, his hyacinth his polyanthus and a pot plant in bloom.

Ann Osborne won the Home Made Compost cup kindly donated by Kate and Syd Mylrea. She also won in the classes for wallflowers, a pot plant in bloom and stems of a shrub in bloom,

Wendy Mitchell was awarded the cup for best exhibit in show which was her beautifully decorated Easter biscuit.

Other class winners were -Pam Lee for her pansies and Olive Young for her flower arrangement.

Hard working secretary Ann Osborne thanks everyone who donated prizes and and all those who supported the show, She especially thanks Stuart, Simon and Michael for setting up the hall, Kim for the teas, Barbara and Helen for the raffle and Judy and Sarah for the tombola and thanks to Coghurst Nurseries for bringing their plant display.

The recent Easter Craft Fair saw the Memorial Hall filled again with locally made arts and crafts. The cold weather may have put some off,but the atmosphere was lively and full of colour. Grateful thanks to the refreshment ladies Pat, Mary and Lyn. Their help was much appreciated and £90 was raised for Hall funds. The next fair will be on Saturday 5 May.

Kate Mylrea’s 2012 challenge is a new one. It is to raise £2012 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. At present she is half way through her target of power walking 2012 kilometres (that’s 1250.198 miles in old money). As in previous years Kate and Syd will be opening the restaurant at Manor Farm Oaston three nights. Dinner will be served on three Saturday evening - 9 June, 7 July and 21 July. A beautiful 6 course event and you donate £25 to the Charity, On Sunday 1 July there will be a garden party serving a ploughman’s lunch with a glass of wine and a £5 donation. At all the events tickets for a Grand Raffle will be on sale.
