Saturday 17 March 11am -2pm the first Church Market of 2012 with coffee, tea, light lunches and lots to buy especially home made goodies. Janet Thompson will be there to take orders for Easter Lilies. Anyone can buy one which will be part of the flowers on Easter Sunday. Each is dedicated in memory of a loved one. A List of Dedications will be placed in the Church. Janet can be contacted on 01797 222891. Janet has to have the orders by 17 March. The Lilies are £2 a stem.

Sunday 18 March is Mothering Sunday. All families are welcome to this special service in Icklesham’s Mother Church. The Service starts at 10.30 and is a Family Communion. Posies of flowers will be available for children to give to their Mums at this shortened service.

A warm spell on 29 February and 1 March tempted some butterflies to come out of hibernation and 3 species were seen - Peacock, Small Tortoiseshell and a Comma. that lovely reminder of the Women’s Institute, the daffodils on the Recreation Ground also looked promising. But in our variable weather patterns winter is not over.’

March 1 1951 Margaret and Bob Harmer married in her Parish Church of All Saints, Biddenden, Kent. Bob from Hastings was at the time serving with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers at Lydd. He had previously been a railway fireman and on leaving the Army he joined the old Hastings Police Force.However in Icklesham they are remembered as popular and successful wardens of the Five Villages House where they are now residents. The Diamond Wedding celebrations with their 2 sons, their daughter and 5 grand children took place in Smarden, Kent. Congratulations to you both.

Sunday 25 March the Hastings Half Marathon. Two Icklesham runners are taking part in this hard personal challenge. Jade Butcher is raising funds for St Michaels. The improvement to facilities and equipment for the children and young people on the Recreation ground is getting closer. The Parish Council has recently been considering the various options presented by firms who develop such sites

Last Saturday’s Craft Fair successfully raised £175 for Memorial Hall and Pavilion upkeep. Sandra Stunt thanks everybody who helped or supported the event especially Pat, Lynn, Mary, Nikki and Eric. The Diamond (not Golden) Jubilee celebrations in June commemorate 60 years of the Queen’s reign. She became Queen on the death of George VI in February 1952 and was crowned in June the following year. So June 2012 is an appropriate compromise time to celebrate. Village events will take place on Monday 4 June. The Parish Church will be decorated with flowers over that Jubilee weekend, with archives, photographs and registers on display. Results for Icklesham Casuals 1st team have improved with 2 victories in the last 3 games - a 2-1 win over Eastbourne Dynamos with goals from George Richardson and Mike Beaumont and a 6-2 defeat of Hastings Rangers( Phil Badrock 4).

The 2nd team picked up a well deserved point with a 2-2 draw against Grasshoppers Old Boys. Ollie Janman and Ollie Beaumont scored. They lost narrowly 3-2 to Ninfield United II with Nick Bellhouse amongst the scorers.

The 75th Anniversary charity fund raising total now stands at £2139.30. Arrangements for the ‘’75 Holes-in-a-Day’’ charity golf event on 25 June are progressing well. 43 ofthe holes have now been sponsored. The Club thanks the latest supporters - S.J. Homewood,Bartletts Seat, Garage on the Green, Rapid Direct, Homewood Spas and Pools,Glowing Grates, Michael Osborne, Peter Drew, Howard Marks, Hugh Moseley and the Icklesham Parish Magazine.

The first 39 holes will be played at Sedlescombe Golf Course where the first ball will be struck at 4am! The remaining 36 holes will be played at the Weald of Kent Golf Course where tee times of 1pm and 5pm have been booked. Following successful completion(hopefully) of the challenge there will be a curry buffet costing £11.95 at the Weald of Kent Course and the Club would welcome anyone who would like to join us but would appreciate prior notice of attendance so numbers can be confirmed.The Club thanks both golf courses for their co-operation and assistance.

The number attending the reunion on 16 June is rising all the time. If you have received an invite but have not yet returned this, there is still time if you would like to come. On Sunday 4 March at 12 over 100 family and friends packed All Saints Parish Church for the Baptism of Theo Tilden Rosewell who was born on 24 October 2011. Proud parents Daniel and Zoe later celebrated in Winchelsea Beach with their guests.Theo is the great grandson of Mrs Ivy Corke who was a member of the congregation and the choir of the church for many years and her late husband was Tilden Corke.Canon Hugh Moseley said the service was a beautiful village occasion.
