Mr. Ken Turner gave an entertaining and informative talk to members of the Iden and Playden Garden Society, on how to achieve a colourful garden all the year round. He paid particular attention to the problems within a smaller garden, suggesting ways of laying out the area to give maximum impact. He brought samples cut from his own garden to demonstrate his topic, and listed many other plants to give spectacular displays in larger gardens.

His wealth of experience, gained from a lifetime in horticulture, enabled him to cope with the enthusiastic questioning posed through the evening.

The much needed and very welcome cup of tea and biscuits were provided by Mrs. Carol Worwood. A raffle was drawn to round off the session.

The Open Day at Orchard Cattery had a mixed result. On the positive side, 4 cats were re-homed. But it was a bit disappointing not to welcome more visitors. £149 was raised for funds of the Cats’ Protection League.

Tonight, Friday 23rd, The Iden and District Natural History Society has its next Winter Lecture. Mr. John Buckingham will speak about the Falkland Islands, Birds and Wildlife.

The talk begins at 7.30 pm and visitors are charged a modest £3.

The Mobile Library will be at the village hall on Monday from 12.05 to 12.45. Concurrently the very popular Coffee Morning will be open from 11 am to 1.30 pm. Books are also for sale, and it is the perfect venue and opportunity to meet with friends.

A date for your diary. The very popular Carol Service will be on Tuesday 18th December at 7.30 pm in Iden Church.

The mid-week services will be at 9.30 am and 3.30 pm on Wednesday as usual.

The 9.30 am service on Sunday will be Parish Communion for the last Sunday before Advent. The celebrant will be Canon David Frost

This particular Sunday is usually known as “Stir-up Sunday” from the words of the Collect. It reminds anyone who is responsible for cakes and puddings for Christmas, that they should be getting on with making them, if they haven’t done so already.
