Iden

Last Saturday All Saints Church Iden witnessed the wonderful piano playing of a young man at the start of his career. As was said in the introduction, when his name is emblazoned in lights, remember that you heard him here ! Thomas Harris was the guest performer, following in the tradition of young, talented musicians visiting Iden. He gave us the Beethoven Sonata in C major Op.2 No 3; Chopin Etudes Op10 Nos 1,3 and 4; and the Liszt Etude de Concert No3, titled Un Sospiro. The audience of over the three score and ten demanded an encore and were treated to Scarlatti. He showed great clarity of tone and very skilful articulation. Definitely a young man going places and one to watch. He will be performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 3 in London with the Kensington Philharmonic in March 2013.

As well as being a master at the piano, he also plays bassoon, recorders, flute and uses a fine singing voice. Multi-talented indeed.

The other successful event in the village was the Book sale. £510 was raised for the village hall.

Mrs. Carol Bourne offers very grateful thanks to all the people who donated books and everyone who came to support the event. Some of the surplus will go St. Michael’s Hospice shop, some to the coffee Pop-in - which grows week by week- and some to the next jumble sale.

Several people came to the Talent Show inaugural meeting and some good progress was made. The proposed performance in November has been postponed until April, to give the organisers chance to write a pantomime-style show. It should all be great fun.

The Shoeboxes for the Link Romania Christmas Appeal need to be in church on 28th October. If you have any difficulties, please phone Mrs. Sue Cavilla on 231 431 for help.

The 9.30 am service for the 21st Sunday after Trinity will be Parish Communion led by the Vicar.
