A question was asked about disabled access to the playing field and a reply will be given in due course once enquiries have been made

Planning consent has been received for Nirvana, Iden Lock but there were no applications to consider.

A meeting has been held with representatives from East Sussex County Council at which the new speed limit was discussed. Before any final decisions and announcements can be made, there will now be a period of consultation. The Council has been assured that the advent of the 30mph limit will not also mean street lighting!

Plans are now well advanced for the Jubilee party in the playing field on Monday 4 June between 2 and 5pm when it is hoped as many from the village will be able to attend. The Council agreed to donate £150 to Playden School for Jubilee mugs for the children of the village.

Invitations will be sent to each household during the next few days for the Annual Parish Meeting at 7pm on 1 May in the Village Hall when it is expected that representatives of local organisations will be present and that the occasion will be more of a social one rather than formal. The Parish Council is anxious to hear from as many residents as possible about what it needs to give priority to in coming months.

Although much has been done during the past year, in particular the Council would like to hear what other facilities it can provide in the playing field and the Children’s play area.

Residents will notice that 4 new trees have been planted in the playing field, with the walnut by the sundial to be the Jubilee Tree and one of the features for the celebrations on the 4 June

Would residents please note that the scheduled meeting for Saturday 21 April to consider the next stages of the Village Plan has been postponed and another date will be given in due course.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday 1 May at 7pm in the Village Hall which will be the Annual Meeting to be followed by the Annual Parish Meeting

The Arts and Spring Gardens event over the weekend of 31 March - 1 April organised by the Friends of Iden Church has raised about £1000. John Harrison the Chairman of Friends would like to thank again all those who supported this weekend which was helped on the Sunday by some glorious spring sunshine. John hopes that as many as possible will attend the Annual General Meeting of Friends which will be held in the Old Hall, Church Lane, on Thursday 19 April at 3pm when refreshments will also be served.

The Annual Meetings of the Parochial Church Council will also be held that day at 7pm in the Old Hall when the Reverend Teresa Munro hopes to see as many parishioners as possible

Don’t forget that this Saturday, 14 April, the Iden and Playden Garden Society will be holding their Spring Show in Iden Village Hall at 2.30pm. As always refreshments will be served whist you admire what will be stunning displays of early flowers and produce.

Congratulations to the Iden Field Trotters who next week will be celebrating ten years of monthly and summer evening walks. That’s an awful lot of shoe leather!

On Saturday 28 April at 7.30pm the Navarra String Quartet will be giving a Spring Concert in Iden Church consisting of Haydn, Mendelssohn and Schubert. Many will remember their last very successful visit to Iden as part of the Rye Arts Festival.

On the same day, local and popular artist Martin Bradshaw will be holding an exhibition of his paintings in the Old Hall from 11am to 7pm.

Finally, it is good to see that Iden Stores has now been put back together again after the dreadful ram raiding attack earlier this year. Customers will soon see the appearance of bollards outside the shop which should deter any similar incidents.
