Income top-up for pensioners?

A wealth check is being offered to Bognor Regis senior citizens.

The free assessment will see if the over-60s are entitled to Pension Credit.

This is a tax-free payment which allows them to top up their income.

Bognor's Citizens' Advice Bureau has joined forces with West Sussex County Council to ensure pensioners receive the benefits to which they are entitled.

A CAB spokesman said: 'There are many reasons why pensioners may not claim Pension Credit.

'It may be that they do not realise that they qualify or they are unsure of how to go about filling in the forms, or are too proud to claim what they consider to be charity.'

He said a 75-year-old homeowner with an 87.30 weekly state retirement pension and savings of 10,000 could be entitled to Pension Credit of 28.55 a week and help with council tax.
