Information trial at Bexhill station

BEXHILL is one of four railway stations which rail operator Southern has chosen to trial its new touch-screen information screens.

These Info Pods have been introduced to help passengers with disabilities and accessibility needs to look up information via websites to help them with their journey on the railway.

The touch-screen links up to local accessibility information, interconnecting transport options, local businesses and services and accessibility groups.

Southern says they provide a wealth of travel information to passengers.

This includes access to the company’s website where tickets can purchased, along with information and travel times, timetables and access to all accessibility information.

This includes the Stations Made Easy facility on the National Rail Enquiries website which provides information, maps and photos of every station in the UK.

Southern’s accessibility manager, Kirsty Monk said: “Not everyone has access to this kind of information from home and the pods are a quick and convenient way of accessing websites which will make journeys by train easier for those who need more assistance than others.”

Although the touch-screens can be used by anyone, they have been designed with wheelchair users in mind and the height of the screen is appropriately positioned.

The other three stations where the Info Pods have been installed are Eastbourne, Streatham Hill, and Purley.

In the first week of operation, there were 760 users at the four stations who navigated to more than 4,500 web pages.

At the end of the trial, Southern will review feedback and usage to determine whether the touch-screens could be rolled out at more stations.
