Inn drives up funds raised by motor club's ladies

A donation of more than £1,300 has boosted the amount raised by Bognor Regis Motor Club ladies towards a six figure milestone.

The 1,365 cheque handed over by the Gribble Inn landlords, David and Linda Stone, took the Regis Classic Tour fundraising by the women to a massive 193,489.

This includes the 22,094 which was raised by their latest, and tenth, tour in March. The proceeds are being split between the Against Breast Cancer and Orchid '“ Fighting Male Cancer charities.

Ali Green, the clerk of the course for the tour, commented: 'We were delighted to receive such a huge cheque from The Gribble.

'All credit to everyone there for their hard work. We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the total. I'm sure the two charities will put the money to very good use.'

The ladies of the club arranged for this year's Regis Classic Tour, between March 16 and 18, to visit Holland for their first overseas venture. The fabulous trip was enjoyed by 42 crews.

Based at a four-star hotel in Zwijndrecht, south of Rotterdam, the drivers and passengers visited sites such as the Kinderdijk Windmills and the De Biesbosch National Park.

An original team of three cars was due to travel from The Gribble Inn at Oving.

Work commitments, however, meant Mr and Mrs Stone had to miss the tour.

This left Martin and Jan Fairbrother, in their MGC Roadster, and James Cole and Natalie Vaughan, in a Triumph Stag, as the pub's representatives.

However, the year-round fundraising work of '˜Team Gribble' for the tour continued.

A vast array of events were organised at the pub.
