The paper leads on the news a convicted killer has had his sentence reduced after claiming the minimum ‘tariff’ was too tough. Gerry Palmer was jailed for life in September 2016 after being found guilty of the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Sidley shop owner Carrie Izzard.

In other news, MP Huw Merriman, who was one of many MPs involved in a five-hour lock-down at the Houses of Parliament during Wednesday’s Westminster terror attack, has paid tribute to the victims, and a much-heralded waste partnership contract, designed to save East Sussex councils £30million over a decade, is set to end nearly four years early.

In some positive news, Luigi Di Paolo, from Di Paolo’s in Marina, has scooped an award in a national competition, and another local entrepreneur, Luca Venditto, has secured a package in excess of £1 million to expand and develop his hospitality businesses in Bexhill. The family at the helm of the Wickham Bistro are also celebrating after they were all awarded prestigious wine qualifications.

Bexhill’s mayor Cllr Simon Elford speaks about completing the Hastings Half Marathon, and there are eight pages dedicated to the race in the centre of the paper, including photographs and a full list of finishers.
