Inspector rejects Aldwick house plans

A PLANNED four-bedroom detached house in Aldwick has been rejected by a planning inspector.

Hayley Butcher said the proposal for a site in Kingsway on the Craigweil estate would neither preserve nor enhance the estate’s conservation area.

The plot size appeared narrow and small compared to neighbouring properties.

“Altogether this would result in a property of modest appearance which would not display any individuality or grandeur and, therefore, does not embrace the ethos of the estate or its concept,” she ruled.

Ms Butcher announced her decision last week. She considered an appeal by Mr D Colley against Arun District Council’s refusal last year to approve the planned house being built in a side garden of an existing house.

Richard Ostler, who chairs the Craigweil and its Environs Conservation Area Association, said: “We have been opposing this and a previous bungalow application since 2011.”
