Intolerence of young

There is unjustified and disturbing intolerance of children in the UK according to a poll commissioned by Barnardo's.

This is also supported regionally in the south east of England. A recent poll conducted by YouGov for the children's charity shows that society casually condemns all children, with more than half of those questioned in the south east of England (52%) thinking that British children are beginning to behave like animals.

Research conducted by YouGov shows that the public holds a negative view of all children, despite the vast majority of children making positive contributions to their communities, attending school, taking part in activities and a significant number volunteering.

The findings show for those living in the south east of England show that just under half (43%) of people believe that children are increasingly a danger to each other and adults and 37% agree something has to be done to protect everyone from children.

Almost a third (31%) of people think that it feels like the streets are infested with children

Nearly half of people (46%) disagree with the statement that children who get into trouble are often misunderstood and in need of professional help.

Commenting on the findings Barnardo's London, East and South East of England Director, Delroy Pomell said: "The figures concerning people's views about children in the south east aren't the worst in the UK but the difference between people's views and the reality is stark. The vast majority of children are decent, enthusiastic, caring and conscientious. The minority who are not, and those who do start down the path of bad behaviour, can be helped to change direction."
