Iping villagers campaign for new speed limit

FOLLOWING the campaign in Stedham to slow traffic, Iping residents have launched their own petition to reduce the speed limit.

And now Stedham with Iping parish councillor John Wheelhouse has urged county councillors to take the matter on board at a meeting of West Sussex County Council’s county local committee.

“Iping residents are concerned to have the speed limit lowered from 40mph to 30mph to improve safety in the village where despite the narrow roads people still tend to drive very fast.”

He said the parish council had already contacted county council highways officers: “we recognise it is a long process but we want to demonstrate to residents we are taking the matter seriously.”

The Iping road is due to be monitored by highways officers to gather data on volume of traffic and speeds.

Committee chairman Michael Brown told him: “If the data suggests something should be done you will join the long list of people who want Traffic Regulation Orders.”
