Jazz in the Garden comes to The Fishermen's Club, Eastbourne
September date
Jazz in the Garden comes to The Fishermen's Club, Eastbourne on Sunday, September 13.
Spokeswoman Annette Keen said: “Chill out at The Fishermen's Club Eastbourne with a glass of wine and an afternoon of live jazz.
“On Sunday, September 13, Sue Richardson's Trio will be performing, with contributions from sax/flute maestro and host Andy Panayi. The venue is the garden at the Fishermen's Club, on Royal Parade, and the music starts at 3pm.
“Sue Richardson is a rare talent. Not only does she play trumpet and flugelhorn but she also sings and does it all to great acclaim. Touring with big bands by the age of 16, Sue’s musical journey has seen her gigging in over 50 countries in hotels, jazz clubs and on cruise ships. “She has worked for the BBC, performing at The Last Night of The Proms and gaining a Blue Peter badge for her singing.
“Sue’s gigs are a great combination of her original songs and imaginatively reworked standards, revealing her love of mainstream and 1950s jazz. Her tribute show to Chet Baker was hugely popular, touring extensively in the UK, and was followed by another musical biography – that of trumpeter Clifford Brown.
“Sue has been honoured to work with The Humphrey Lyttelton Band, no more so than in 2011 when the cast of I'm Sorry I Haven’t a Clue led a high-spirited tribute to the late bandleader at the Hammersmith Apollo.
“She has also been a part of Humph's band in gigs at Ronnie Scott's and made many other appearances there and at other top London jazz venues, both with her own band and as a featured guest soloist.
“Appearing with Sue at the Fishermen's is her husband Neal Richardson (keys). Neal is the founder and director of Splash Point Jazz and runs the Seaford Splash Point Jazz Club. He has been a music producer and publisher in addition to running a successful jazz record label – as well as being a busy and in-demand performer.
“Neal was the first resident pianist/singer at London Raffles at the OWO (Old War Office), voted by Condé Nast as the best new hotel in the world. He is just about to launch his third CD, backed by a six-piece band including his wife Sue.
“Andy Hamill (double bass) completes the trio line-up. Andy has played bass for a huge number of top artists including Annie Lennox, Tim Minchin, Van Morrison, Georgie Fame and many more. He usually has a harmonica tucked into his pocket to add a little variety to gigs – and sometimes also a kazoo...
“Andy Panayi (sax/flute) will also be on hand to provide a different texture to the music with his laid-back style of jazz.
“You can expect to hear a combination of Sue Richardson's original songs, plus some jazz classics and standards. This is a band that's out to entertain so maybe also expect some surprises!
“The Fishermen's will be running a full bar throughout the gig, and the music will go ahead regardless of the weather. If it looks like rain, everything will be transferred inside to the downstairs room at the club so the show goes on whatever the weather.”
The venue is the Fishermen's Club, Royal Parade, BN22 7AA. The music starts at 3pm, finishing at around 5.30pm.
“Entry is free, but donations are requested please to pay for your entertainment and the musicians' fees.”
