Jeremy Corbyn to speak at Brighton conference

Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn is to give his first major speech since the election at UNISON's annual conference in Brighton this week.

Mr Corbyn will address public sector employees from across the UK at the Brighton Centre on Friday morning (June 23).

UNISON started its week of events in Brighton yesterday (June 18) with a two-day conference for staff working in local government, as well as for staff in the water, environment and transport sectors.

Today (June 19), it’s the turn of employees in the energy sector. UNISON’s main conference starts at 9.30am on Tuesday (June 20).

Fringe events are being held throughout the week including 'Exiting the EU: Getting a fair deal for public service workers', at 12.45pm on Tuesday, with Keir Starmer MP, shadow Brexit spokesperson; Clare Moody MEP; and Sanchita Hosali, British Institute for Human Rights.

Also on Tuesday is a 'Save Our NHS' talk, with with Jonathan Ashworth MP, Labour health spokesperson and Owen Jones, author and Guardian columnist, at 5.15pm.

On Thursday, there will be a talk on Tackling the housing crisis from 12.45pm, with John Healey MP, Labour housing spokesperson; Kate Webb, Shelter; and Steve Hilditch, Red Brick.
