Joy for Felpham woman as funds pour in after charity cycle tour

A Felpham woman has raised almost £10,000 in memory of her late husband.

Claire Twort spent two days circling the Isle of Wight on a cycle in aid of the Barrett's Oesophagus Foundation.

She clocked up 75 miles, inspired by Graham, who died from cancer of the oesophagus in September, 2007.

Claire said: "It feels like a great achievement to have been supported by so many people and to be able to give such a large amount of money to Barrett's Oesophagus Foundation. I hope the money we have raised will prevent more people from dying of this awful disease."

She recently presented the proceeds of her ride to the charity to be spent on research into the causes, prevention and treatment of the condition.

Barrett's Oesophagus is an abnormal lining of the gullet, which occurs in patients with a long history of heartburn and acid reflux.

This can progress to cancer which has a low survival rate. If detected early, a cure is possible. Claire was joined by a team of supporters for her personal journey on two wheels.
