Jubilee weekend guide

RESIDENTS on the Rocks Park and West Park estates in Uckfield have pulled out the stops to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee next week.

What started out as an idea for a low-key street party grew into an estate-sized party with circus acts, Army displays, dancers, fun runs, ice-creams, tea tents . . . enough to keep all entertained for six hours, according to Paula Peters who chaired the organising committee.

Arena events begin at the West Park playing field at 11am on Tuesday with a fun run started by Canon Bill Peters and the final act starts at 4pm with a performance by a live band, Company.

Treasure pit

Barcombe Scouts Brass Band will play to welcome back the runners and in addition to the events listed above there will be karate and falconry displays.

Other attractions include horse riding, table top sale, swingboats, a bouncy castle/slide, metal detecting treasure pit, penalty shoot out, stocks and many more stalls.

Admission will be free and visitors are invited to dress in red, white and blue. Money raised during the day will go to Phab, Physically Handicapped and Able Bodied club.

On Sunday the place to be in Uckfield will be the Lions Club annual fete and car boot sale which this year is doubling as a Jubilee event. This will be held at the Luxford Field and include music, dancing, tug-of-war, and a variety of stalls and side shows.

A picnic is to be held for Buxted and Hadlow Down residents at the Buxted Recreation Ground on Tuesday at 12.30pm.

Heathfield

Today (Friday): torchlight procession, buffet meal, fireworks, licensed bar, from 6.30pm till late in Punnetts Town Community Primary school.

Afternoon of fun and games at Broad Oak County Primary School.

Tomorrow, Golden Jubilee concert with Ieuan Rees and Stuart Morley, 7.30pm at Welcome Baptist Church, Alexandra Road.

Monday: fire station, Heathfield High Street. Heathfield Silver band concert 11am-noon. Children's party with conjurer and Punch & Judy show, 3pm-5pm. Disco with 50's theme 7pm-midnight.

Royal toast, lunch, cricket match, afternoon tea and stalls, from noon-4pm at Heathfield Park Cricket Club. Heathfield Park Cricket Club barbeque starting 8pm at the Jack Cade pub. At 10pm lighting of the beacon in Cade Street recreation ground.

Tuesday: fair and sports fundraising day for the Cattam Project at Waldron recreation ground.

Mayfield

Sunday: St Dunstan's Church, 7.30pm, celebration in words and music of the last 50 years in Mayfield. Tickets, 5, concessions 4, available from the church.

Monday: Memorial Hall and Court Meadow, ploughman's supper from 7.30pm, music by Sounds Familiar, Punch and Judy, licensed bar. Fireworks at dusk. Ploughman's and hot dogs available, but tickets for ploughman's must be bought before hand at Rosina's, price 3.

Tuesday: Memorial Hall, children's party for all Mayfield children aged 4-12. Any child who does not go to school in the parish and wishes to attend should put their name on the list in the Post Office. There is a party for children who live in Five Ashes, organised by the Five Ashes WI). In scout and guide hall, 2.30pm-4.30pm, Jubilee tea party for those in Mayfield over 60.

Wednesday: Convent concert hall 7.30pm. Mayfield mini prom. Tickets from Libra, price 5, concessions 4. Price includes a glass of wine.

St Thomas Becket in

Framfield and Blackboys

Tomorrow: 1950's vicarage garden party with cream teas, bric-a-brac, plant stall.

Sunday: 8am Holy Communion (BCP) in church. In the marquee on Framfield Recreation Ground, 11am community celebration and at 5.30pm songs of praise, giving thanks for the last 50 years.

Fletching

Today: 6.30pm, reception in the church as a preview to the flower festival which runs from June 1-3.

Tomorrow: 7.30pm, The Prince of Wales's harpist in concert at the church.

Monday: fun and games on the recreation ground and in the closed part of the village street. A play/review by Fletching youth in the village hall. Jazz trio and disco in the street. 10pm fireworks, 10.15pm lighting of beacon, 10.30pm church bells.

Warbleton and

Rushlake Green

Monday: 2pm Soapbox derby 'The Church Hill Challenge,' Warbleton. There will be prizes for the winner, best under-16, best looking cart and most daring competitor. From noon onwards, craft stalls, games and an inter-pub tug of war.

From 6pm in Rushlake Green, family fun evening, all on the green. 4-8 years parade their home-made crowns for judging. 6.30pm, 8-16 years, display their jubilee flags. At 7.30pm there will be a beer race around the green. Food served at 8pm. Best dressed gazebo competition and at 9pm there will be a bonfire.

Bodle St Green

Tuesday: a lamb roast, bar, BBQ food, free bouncy castle. Cost 5, children under 16 free.
