Junior school dancers get roles in panto

Dancers from Laburnum Grove Junior School in Bognor Regis have been invited to perform in panto this year.

The surprise offer was made after the 15-strong group had wowed a 600-strong audience at Mill Rythe Holiday Village.

Phil Jermyn and Henry Kearns, the two owners of the tourist destination in Ryde on the Isle of Wight, were among those watching.

They were so impressed with the vibrant display that they invited the dancers to take part in the holiday village's pantomime between this November to January 2008.

Mr Jermyn and Mr Kearns had already begun to sponsor the dancers after they saw a recent performance at a competition in Worthing.

The girls showed they deserved the backing with an outstanding display during a weekend's stay at the holiday village where they could enjoy the site's many leisure activities.

The dancers received a standing ovation after their performance in the venue's ballroom just before the headline act of singer Jane McDonald in the star cabaret took to the stage.

Jane commented about their professionalism and delighted the youngsters by welcoming them backstage to meet her and enjoy a photo session.

She posed with each of the girls individually as well as a group shot to display in the school.
