Keane star Tom Chaplin is appealing to his fans to help trace a ring belonging to his wife that was stolen during a New Year Eve raid on his home near Rye.

The 35-year-old vocalist and songwriter urged his 16,500 Twitter followers to keep their eyes open for the missing jewellery, which was taken from the Wittersham home he shares with wife Natalie during a New Year’s Eve burglary ‘despite the alarm blaring’.

He also warned the thieves who took the diamond ring ‘We’re coming for you’.

The singer 35 posted pictures of the square shaped stolen ring on Twitter, asking followers to keep their eyes open.

He later wrote: ‘Pawnbrokers, antique shops, jewellers and punters - if you see this ring being punted, tweet me. Reward for info.’

Tom and the other band members met when they were students at Vinehall School near Robertsbridge and have maintained strong links with the area.

Keane acknowledged their roots by playing concerts for their local fans at Battle Memorial Hall and also performed as headliners at the Hastings Beer Festival, which raises thousands of pounds for charity.

Band member Tim Rice-Oxley was the patron of last year’s Battle Arts Festival and gave one to one mentoring sessions to a number of young aspiring local musicians.

He said of Battle: “I love this town. My mum and dad live here and it’s been a huge part of my life.

“Battle is such an inspiring place.

“I think the whole of this area is rich in culture, in art, and it’s time that we start celebrating that a bit more and making more of it.”

The band recorded the video for their recent song Sovereign Light Cafe on Bexhill seafront.

The video featured many local people and vintage cycles.

Keane delighted local fans when they played an impromptu set in small independent Bexhill record shop Music’s Not Dead last year.
