Kids get improved play area

YOUNGSTERS at Fairlight are now able to enjoy a new improved play area.

The newly extended play area, which boasts state-of-the art equipment, was officially opened at the weekend to coincide with the big village family event Fairfest 2012.

The honours were performed by Rother District councillor Roger Bird.

It is situated at Wood Field, Commanders Walk.

Purchase of the new play equipment and fencing was supported by a £5,000 grant from Rother District Council’s Community Grants scheme and by a similar sum from Fairlight Parish Council.

Andrew Mier, chairman of Fairlight Parish Council, said: “The new equipment has already proved very popular with local youngsters and their parents.”

And there is more good news for young people in Fairlight with the Activate Youth Group in line for a £5,000 grant from the Lloyds Bank Community Fund.

Activate founder Wendy Hatch said: “Things have been going very well for Activate. We have a part-time trained youth worker leading the club, with a good number of young leaders taking the reins.

“At present they are working on another show and I will be visiting them at camp next weekend.

“Now we are relying on votes to gain the grant of £5,000. We hope to revamp our kitchen and sort out some much needed maintenance problems.

“We are asking people to vote for us. The voting stops in September and so we need to get as many as possible before then. You can vote for Activate at https://www.lloydsbankinggroupcommunities.com/communityfund/cf_home.asp
