Lancing Crime Blitzed

NO CRIMES were reported in Lancing when it was "blitzed" by police.

Fulfilling one of his promises, the new Adur sector Inspector, Paul Amoo, has started Operation Ruda blitz days in the sector which means flooding the area with officers, a traffic warden and Adur council's Adur Watch patrol officers.

On Thursday, from 1pm to 7.45pm, eight officers, two specials, a traffic warden and Adur Watch staff took to their bikes or walked around South Lancing, Widewater, the Mash Barn and Haslar estates and part of the town centre, visiting pubs, shops, businesses and schools. They even rode on the trains for an hour to provide a high visibility message in Lancing.

Adur Watch identified 10 abandoned cars in the area, which will be taken off the streets within seven days. The operation was led by community beat officer for the patch, PC Alan Nickolson.

Insp Amoo said: "The blitz days were something I promised when I took over, and in Lancing on Thursday we had nothing but positive comments from the public. One person on the Broadway Park residential park home said it was the first time they had seen a police officer on the park for 14 years!I want to put forward the message that we are visible and accessible, which is what it is all about. And, as far as we can tell, we had no crimes reported in the seven hours we were on duty in the area."

Insp Amoo is now planning these blitz days in other areas in the sector, led by the local community beat officers.
