Landfill site threat to top food company

A specialist food company ahs said that a plan to create a new landfill tip at the site of a sand quarry threatens the creation of 200 new jobs.

Catsle Kitchens intends to build a enew state-of-the-art development at its Washington site, but company bosses are fearful that if a neaby sand quarry at Rock Common is turned into a landfill dump, this expansion may not be able to go ahead.

Castle Kitchens specialises in supplying allergy free and prepared meals, and its planning application to build a new timber framed factory, powered by a sustainable energy roof was accepted last December.

However, the unique requirement of the business means it needs to have control over the quality of its water, air and drainage in order to maintain a high level of service.
