Chloe Leathley and her dog Poppy, a ten week old Yorkshire Terrier became the 10,000th client of the practice, and were awarded a bottle of champagne by practice owner Julia Mewes to mark the occasion. Chloe brought Poppy to the veterinary practice upon recommendation from a long-standing client. Miss Leathley works in a local residential home as a carer worker, and Poppy is already finding a role for herself there as chief comforter and lap warmer!

Julia said: “It’s been a fantastic 20 years, and I’m so proud of everything we’ve achieved since we first opened our doors in 1996. “We’ve built the practice up from just one room in the beginning, to three dedicated consulting rooms and two operating theatres today – and we’ve recently even acquired our own car park!” The Mewes Vets have become a significant presence in the community since they were first established, and always try to get involved with as many local incentives as possible. Stand-out events include the annual Haywards Heath Town Day Dog Show and the annual Cuckoo Fayre Dog Show, and the team continue to enjoy meeting old and new faces at every occasion.

Julia said: “I also enjoy writing my weekly articles for the Mid-Sussex Times, and now people even stop me in the street to ask “Aren’t you the vet who writes in the newspaper?”

“I still love helping all animals and their owners just as much as I did 20 years ago, so now it’s great to be able to have the opportunity to interact with the local community through

other media as well as in my consulting room.

Patients often leave us reviews or send us cards and messages to thank us for our work with their pet, and knowing that we’ve had a positive impact on an animal and their family is what makes it all worthwhile.

“I’m proud of my whole team for their work and support during the last 20 years and am very much looking forward to meeting and helping our next 10,000 pets too!”
