The Merrythought Restaurant in the Bishopric has been a landmark eatery in the town for many years and speculation was raised about the future of the restaurant.

It was confirmed by Chartered Surveyors Crickmay this week that the restaurant had closed and they were now looking for a new ‘prospective business’ to take over.

A spokesperson for Crickmay said: “The proprietors retired after many years giving an excellent service to Horsham people.

“We are hoping the incoming prospective business will carry the same tradition.

“While it is sad to see it close down as people know it, now is a good time for someone else to take up the mantle and offer Horsham something exciting.

“Ideally new restaurateurs will not make too many changes as the décor is based on a warm English tradition.”
