Language learning made fun for pupils

A WEEK in France helped year-seven pupils at The Prebendal School in Chichester to improve their language learning.

They stayed at the idyllic Le Château de la Baudonnière in Normandy and spent the week immersing themselves in the French language.

Jane Garfield, head of modern languages, said: “It was a fantastic week as the children not only improved their French but also their confidence when speaking a different language.

“They also realised that learning a language is fun and has a real purpose.”

The action-packed week included bread making, climbing, fencing and an assault course. The students also visited Arromanches and an American war cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer.

The château is a favourite among teachers in the UK as everyone speaks French and this translates into a better understanding for pupils once back in the classroom.
