Learning to work together

Year 2 pupils at Battle Abbey Prep School have been exploring ideas of cooperation and teamwork.

As well as being good fun, activities are designed so that the children will get nowhere unless they work together.

Debbie Williamson, Year 2 teacher, said, 'The value of cooperation can be a difficult principle to grasp for young children. These games and activities give cooperation and immediate and very obvious results which the children can understand. Through team building and collaboration, a child learns to respect others and to control his own immediate impulses and we think it's never too early to get this across to the children.

"We try and set up activities that give each child a role to play in helping one another. We can then discuss teamwork with the children back in the classroom and explore more everyday tasks that might be made easier by working in pairs or as a team."
