Lib Dem summer lunch

A summer lunch with emphasis on protecting the environment will be held by Bexhill Liberal Democrats.

The food and drink will be local farmers' produce and include Fairtrade, while the guest speaker is Lord Bradshaw who will tackle the issue of transport.

The event takes place at St Martha's Church hall on Saturday July 12 at 12.30pm and is expected to be "a relaxed get-together" according to organiser Councillor Stuart Wood.

He said: "The summer lunch is open to everybody.

"It is a social event for us and also we are promoting, as best we can, Fairtrade and produce from our local farmers.

"These are very important issues to us, helping the environment and transport as well, because we have Lord Bradshaw who is the Liberal Democrat spokesman for transport in the House of Lords.

"He is coming by train to Etchingham station where our Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Mary Varrell is meeting him to bring him down by car. She will show him the A21 and the approach road into Bexhill, and explain what is the plan for the area with the link road, then he can understand our problems here and the connections.

"So it is a two-fold approach...He is going to come to talk to us about transport, and we want to highlight to him as well our issues in the area, keeping the event helpful for the environment and supporting local food producers."
