Library dumps closing doors during lunch

Free coffees will be available to celebrate longer opening hours at Willowhale Library in Rose Green.

The drinks will be on offer at the Pryors Lane library next Monday morning.

This will be the first day on which the library's usual lunch hour of 1pm-2pm has been scrapped.

This will make the library's opening time from 9.30am and 5pm every Monday to Saturday.

The improvement will add six hours longer each week to take the total to 45 hours. The free coffees will also be joined by a happy hour during the former lunchtime for next week.

Borrowers will be able to take out a DVD, video, CD and and audio book and get another one free.

Cllr Brad Watson, the county councillor in charge of libraries, said the change had been made in response to public demand.

'People have told us that the lunch hour is a very useful time to use the library.

'So, we've decided to remain open right through the day,' he stated.

A half-hour baby rhyme time for children up to three years old is held at the library on the first Tuesday of every month from 11.15am.

Pre-school children can go along to a storytime between 2.15pm to 2.45pm every Thursday.
