Life-saving equipment donated to Sussex Police

The Sussex Heart Charity (SHC) has generously donated the Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to help save the lives of the county’s residents.

Two police officers in the Force’s Road Policing Unit (RPU) have also recently qualified as police medics, enabling them to use their skills and knowledge, along with the new equipment, to provide medical first response at incidents.

The defibrillators will be carried by the motorbike team at all times - whether they are out on duty in the community or responding to emergency calls.

Superintendent Tony Blaker, from Sussex Police’s operations department, said: “The defibrillators will become a valuable part of the equipment available to the Roads Policing Unit.

“These are the first defibrillators that RPU officers in Sussex have had available to them to use.”

Douglas Coombes, from SHC, said: “The Sussex Heart Charity applauds Sussex Police in their continuing efforts to maintain and continually improve the standard of first aid skills within the service.

“We are very pleased to be involved in supporting the Sussex Police with vital life-saving equipment and training.”
