Students were due to return to school next week. However, a power fault in the underground cabling has left the academy without phones or electricity. High winds have also damaged part of the school’s roof, with firefighters from West Sussex Fire and Rescue currently assessing the damage at the site.

A statement issued this morning by the academy on its Facebook site said: “Due to a major power failure the Academy is closed to students on Monday, January 6. All should return on Tuesday unless otherwise advised.

“Please do not attempt to call the Academy as the phone lines are down. The TLA website is also down at the moment.”

Text messages have been sent to parents, warning them of the extending closure, a spokeswoman added.

It’s hoped power will be restored by Sunday (January 5).
