Littlehampton air cadets can travel in style

YEARS of fund-raising have finally paid off for Littlehampton-based air cadets.

The 1087 (Arun Valley) squadron of the Air Training Corps has taken delivery of a new 17-seater minibus.

The squadron’s civilian committee set itself a target of £12,000 to replace the tired, old minibus, needing to raise the money on top of running costs for the group, based at Griffin Crescent, Wick.

Major financial support also came from the Joint Eastern Area Arun Committee, Littlehampton Town Council, East Preston Festival Committee and Littlehampton Bonfire Society, as well as Rustington Carnival, Littlehampton Town Show and Family Fun Day, and Littlehampton’s Armed Forces Day.

The squadron thanks everyone for their contributions, including the RAF Association Littlehampton branch for generously supporting the squadron barbecue and Christmas raffle, and the mayors of Littlehampton for their support, and especially Joyce Bowyer for her advice and support on fund-raising.

The new minibus is in use on most parade nights, with trips to events such as the South Downs Challenge, gliding, shooting and various sport activities for the cadets, aged 13-18.
