Littlehampton ASBO teenager's three-year ban

A LITTLEHAMPTON teenager has been served with an anti-social behaviour order, after an ongoing campaign of intimidation towards the elderly and vulnerable.

Arun District Council brought the action against 15-year-old David Newnham, of Egan Way, and revealed his identity, as he has been banned from certain areas of Wick and Tesco, for three years.

A spokesman for the council said: "The ASBO has been served against him following a prolonged and recurring series of anti-social acts.

"Along with a small gang of other youths, Newnham conducted an ongoing campaign of intimidation and threatening behaviour towards elderly and vulnerable residents at a block of flats in Wick."

He added that Newnham had also caused numerous problems at the Broadpeice supermarket.

Phil Jeffery, anti-social behaviour caseworker, said: "His ongoing behaviour was both intimidating and threatening to many different people and he refused to heed any and all advice to change.

"Hopefully, now he will steer away from such behaviour and learn to work with others to curb his anti-social behaviour."

Newnham denied engaging in anti-social behaviour.

He said that other people were to blame for the incidents, and in some cases denied that the activity had happened at all, but Worthing Magistrates' Court found against him.

He has also been prohibited from leaving his home between 8pm and 5am for the next six months.
