Littlehampton cyclist faces three gruelling challenges

GOING three times the distance for charity is not about to faze one Littlehampton cyclist.

Steven Read is about to embark on a trio of mammoth rides, taking on the 60-mile London to Brighton night bike ride, on May 26, followed by the 54-mile daytime ride on June 17, and the 80-mile Bath to Bournemouth event, on September 30.

Steven, a safety programmes manager at UK Power Networks, said: “Perhaps I am a glutton for punishment, but I’m really looking forward to them.

“I know they are achievable as I have been training for them since January, slowly increasing the mileage.”

He hopes the events will help raise hundreds of pounds for the British Heart Foundation, as a number of his relatives have suffered with heart conditions in the past, and it was a charity “close to his heart”.

“I’m most looking forward to the Bath to Bournemouth ride, because it’s the biggest challenge and it’s probably going to be the most picturesque ride,” said Steven.

His co-workers are doing their bit to encourage him.

Clive Steed, sustainability manager at the firm, said: “Steve is a great example of what can be achieved with grit and determination, and we wish him all the best with the rides.”
