Littlehampton journalist invites pilgrims to new faith tourism initiative

PILGRIMS and holidaymakers are being urged by a Littlehampton journalist to step off the beaten track this summer, as part of a new, faith tourism initiative.

Former Littlehampton Gazette reporter, Clive Price, is encouraging Christians and history-lovers with his new guide for visitors to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.

Located in the north east of England, just off the Northumberland coastline, the tidal island is known as the country’s “cradle of Christianity” and is rich with religious and Celtic heritage.

Clive, who has visited the island with his family on several occasions, worked with tourism and religious groups on the island to produce the 12-page guide, to entice visitors to bask in the sun, sea and the Holy Spirit.

The booklet, entitled the Holy Island of Lindisfarne Pilgrim Guide, is packed full of information about the island, as well as prayers for prospective pilgrims keen to travel there.

Clive said: “As a family we’ve visited Lindisfarne and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I feel honoured to help others sample the special atmosphere of this place.”

The guide contains inspirational artwork of the island, arranged by Mary Fleeson, of Lindisfarne Scriptorium.

She said: “We’re inviting visitors to look at the island in a way that takes them beyond the tourist trail. Come and experience the sand, sea and spirit of Lindisfarne – ‘a thin place’ where heaven meets earth in a special way.”

Five thousand copies have been printed and a website is being constructed to offer further information to visitors, at www.lindisfarne.info

Clive said his company, Clive Price Media, will design more guides to other sacred places, in the coming months.
