Rory Burdfield, of Horsham Road, was one of thousands taking part in the Brighton Marathon.

The 27-year-old, who works at Littlehampton Welding Ltd, managed to raise more than £1,000 in sponsorship for the Sussex Air Ambulance by completing the gruelling 26.2-mile course, finishing in an impressive 4hrs 26min.

Rory said: “It was such a relief when I got to the end. But it was a fantastic feeling.”

Rory had been inspired to run the race after watching his girlfriend Becci Peach, 24, complete it last year.

He plucked for the air ambulance as it had been instrumental in providing emergency care to his mother, Irene Glen, who was seriously injured about five years ago.

“They did an amazing job,” added Rory. “They are a really great charity.”
