On Friday (May 3), all 14 members of staff at the Travis Perkins depot, in Pier Road, along with some charitable customers took on the challenge of cycling 10,600 miles from London to Australia in a single day on three static bikes.

Thankfully, the team only had to ride a fraction of this, as hundreds of other branches nationwide were also taking part in the scheme, which aimed to raise cash for Breast Cancer Research and Together for Short Lives.

The Littlehampton crew managed to rack up more than 250 miles, during the day-long event and raised more than £300 in the process.

However, all the cash is still be counted and the total looks like it could well exceed this initial benchmark figure.

Ruth Connolly, who works at the store, took part in the cycle-athon.

She said: “It was a really great day. We wanted to start off in London, and then as the day progressed we would then change into our Australian outfits.

“To be honest, it was great fun. It wasn’t too difficult, either, as people could do as much or as little as they wanted to.”

Ruth added that she was unsure as to whether or not the retail chain had achieved its goal of 10,600 miles.
