Littlehampton theatre group set to tee-off

Anne Anderson and Emma Millard ready to tee-off for Stage-Door Theatre Company's latest production

The group will be transforming the Windmill Entertainment Centre’s theatre into a golf course as they take to the stage to perform Peter Gordon’s farce, Par for the Course.

The show, which opens on Wednesday (April 9), follows the petty disputes of golfers at the Seven Lakes Golf Club, on captain’s day.

Micki Darbyshire, of Stage-Door, said: “The clubhouse patio becomes a bit of a battle ground as the characters discover that personal relationships off the course are more dangerous than the hazards on it.

“Love or loathe golf, it will never seem quite the same to you again.”

The story gets off to a rocky start when the men’s captain cannot attend leaving the event in jeopardy of turning into a disaster.

Club secretary Simon Weaver (played by Martin Sworn) seizes the opportunity and takes advantage of the indisposed captain.

However, he is soon thwarted by vice-captain, Nick Armitage (Barry Tinkler) and his girlfriend Tiffany (Emma Millard).

The day rapidly begins to unravel when lady’s captain Fran Jeffries (Micky Darbyshire) and the enthusiastic, yet hopelessly useless, Barry (David Griffin) add to the confusion.

Things become even more complicated following the unexpected arrival of Laura (Anne Anderson), the wife of the club’s secretary.

The cast of six will have to contend with everything from marital friction, gender confusion and food poisoning to a drunken confession on a sunny summer Saturday.

Performances for the play will be taking place from Wednesday, until Saturday, April 12.

Each show takes place at 7.30pm, with doors opening from 7pm.

Tickets are £11 per person, or £10 for concessions.
