Littlehampton Town Show campaign masses more support

MORE than 500 people have signed a petition to keep Littlehampton’s Town Show and Family Fun Day as one event.

The Don’t Split The Town Show campaign, spearheaded by Labour councillors, has now achieved cross-party support, with Liberal Democrat James Walsh and independent Malcolm Belchamber both getting involved.

Town councillor Mike Northeast manned a stall collecting signatures in the town centre on Saturday (July 28),

Councillors Belchamber and Walsh give us a helping hand, proving that it is a non-political campaign for the best interests of the town,” he said.

This year’s event, planned for September 8, is set to be the last time the town show and family fun day, which have been partnered for more than a decade, will take place together, after the Conservative-led council voted to split them.

“We had an excellent response from people in the town, who were queuing up to sign our petition before we had even set up stall, and averaged just over a hundred signatures an hour,” said Mr Northeast.

“Many, many shops and business have taken posters, and 15 shops now have the petitions.”
