Littlehampton wacky run set for big things

WACKINESS and light-hearted family fun are some of the things on the cards for next year’s Littlehampton Sport Relief Mile race.

Following in the wake of the mammoth swim down the River Thames completed by Little Britain star, David Walliams, Sport Relief is now appealing to Littlehampton residents to come forward and join in the fun.

The run is offering a special 50 per cent discount off registration fees to all those who apply online, until October 1.

Since being set up in 2008, the race has been going from strength-to-strength, with next year’s event set to be the largest on record.

More than 1,000 places are available for the run, more than double the number allowed to compete last year.

Supported by Harbour Park and Inspire Leisure, fun runners will be separated into different categories.

There will be three races – six, three and one mile – that will be suitable for all ages and fitness levels, with a mile-long run scheduled to round off the event.

Organiser Andy McTaggart said: “The event just gets better and better each year.

“We’re trying to follow on from David’s fantastic achievement in the River Thames.

“It’s just a bit of silliness and fun.

“It’s a terrific focal point for the town and one which I look forward to hosting.”

Last year’s event managed to raise more than £12,000.

However, organisers are hoping next year’s race will smash that, by raising around £20,000.

Prices range from £3 for individuals to £7.50 for families.
