Littlehampton’s lifeboat crews appeal for help

EVERY year Littlehampton’s lifeboat crews answer pleas for help from many people involved in emergencies on the water.

But now lifeboat charity the RNLI is making its own appeal for volunteers to support the service.

For more information on these and other volunteer vacancies, contact Derek Moore, the Arun Volunteer Centre co-ordinator, by telephoning 01903 731223, e-mailing [email protected] or by calling in at the centre on the ground floor, Bradbury Centre, 1-5 St Martin’s Lane, Littlehampton, from 9am-4pm on Mondays and Thursdays and 9.30am-4.30pm on Wednesdays.

The RNLI vacancies are for a boathouse attendant, education team member, fund-raisers and shop assistant.

The boathouse attendant’s duties include showing visitors round and answering their questions, so the ability to deal with the public is important.

The education team member helps with school visits to the boathouse, and also with visits to schools and other groups, including giving talks to promote the work of the RNLI.

Fund-raisers should be willing to give up a few hours of their time when required – this is not a regular commitment. The shop assistant needs to be able to handle money, to be numerate and capable of using the fund-raising shop’s electronic till, after training.
