Littlehampton’s SPACE prove a stunning success

The Sports and the Arts Community Event (SPACE) proved a massive hit, with almost 350 of the 600 places being taken up by the town’s young residents.

The event, organised by Littlehampton Town Council, offered children aged between eight and 14 the chance to take part in a range of indoor and outdoor activities.

Councillor Malcolm Belchamber, chairman of the council’s community resources committee, was ‘happy with the turnout’ at the event, which ended on Friday.

“It is great to see so many youngsters benefiting from this initiative. I have been told by a number of parents that they thought the programme was fantastic, especially as it was free and their children had a great time,” he added.

The aim of the scheme was to give youngsters the chance to try different activities and introduce them to clubs in the town which they might not have considered before.

Some of the sessions – like the samba class in Southfields Jubilee Centre – were even visited by special guests, who included Littlehampton mayor Jill Long and Mr Belchamber.

At the end of the week, some of the youngsters had picked up enough skills to enter a talent show, with a host of displays on offer at the show.

The Littlehampton Sports Forum, that includes the Sportsfield in St Floras Road, lent its support by providing various facilities for free.
